Opening worship at All Saints, Sunderland with the Right Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, Elizabeth Comer of the Catoctin Furnace Historical Society, and virtual address by the Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas. Panelists and in-person attendees will frame the discussion around the criticality of education and acknowledgement of past events, including historical sins of the church. This knowledge affects the present and future of society in America and of the church.
Songs of lament, work, liberation and freedom will ground and guide attendees through a virtual pilgrimage from rural Southern Maryland to the iron workers of Catoctin Furnace to the tunnels under Emmanuel Church, Cumberland that enslaved persons used to escape to freedom. Come and listen, learn and grow in the pursuit of justice.
