CONGREGATIONAL VITALITY COMMITTEE

At Diocesan Convention 2018 the Convention voted to create a Pre-Imperilment Canon in which congregations facing challenges to their viability could receive support from the Diocese to regain their ability to thrive, averting imperilment. In 2021 the Diocesan Council created the Congregational Vitality Committee, a representative group of consultants and coaches, trained in organizational development and the College for Congregational Development who could be available to congregations in the Diocese for little or no cost, addressing issues unique to congregations facing sustainability challenges.

The 16 members, clergy and lay, who are members of the Congregational Vitality Committee have been working with congregations throughout the Diocese in areas that range from Mutual Ministry Reflections, to implementing congregational efforts to share ministry and staff, to strategic planning. Among the efforts of the Congregational Vitality Committee has been the creation of referral guidelines for both the Congregational Vitality Committee and the Standing Committee related to the Pre-Imperilment Canon.
